Daulat Ram College (commonly called DRC), was founded by Educationalist and Philanthropist Shri Daulat Ram Gupta in the year 1960. It is an all-girls college situated in the heart of North Campus and has been awarded the position of a Star College by the government of India. DRC offers various traditional coursesalong with providing language classes to interested students on alternate days.
The college is known for its excellent faculty, if not for the infrastructure, which is a bit outdated. Still, most of the classrooms are air conditioned, which is a relief considering the blazing hot summers in Delhi. There is a two floor fully air conditioned library for students to read and study in silence, although, many of the girls prefer the lush green front lawn during winters. The canteen serves decent food and you will always find it packed with people. In between the small breaks from classes, one can just grab a cup of coffee and maggi from Nescafe. The good news for sports students is that DRC has a pretty enormous ground and it comes under one of the few colleges of DU with a well-equipped gym. The conference hall is the most demanded place, with bookings being done a month prior to the actual event.
Against all the conventions and stereotypes of a girls’ college being dull and boring, DRC provides a safe feminine space with an environment full of entertainment and excitement. You can always find one or the other society practicing in Rangshala, which is also the chill spot for the students of Daulat Ram College. The college hosts a pleasant annual fest every year, in which renowned stars are invited to entertain the crowd.
Being a North campus college, DRC has many cool hangout spots nearby. From themed cafes in Hudson lane to Tom Uncle maggi point, your fast food requirements are taken care of. Amidst all the rush, there is Kamala Nehru ridge, popularly known as ‘Bonta Park’ for all the nature admirers. You can visit this place for a nature walk or for clicking pictures, as it has got some alluring and bewitching backdrops. Kamla Nagar is a go to market place for the students of campus and caters to almost every possible need be it shopping for clothes from big showrooms to grabbing cheap second hand books.
The nearest metro station from the college is Vishwavidyalaya, from where you can either rent a bicycle or get a ride on a shared battery Rikshaw which will only charge Rs.10/- . Apart from the metro, Ola and Uber cabs are easily available in the campus. Some students also get their bus passes made to facilitate transportation.
For outstation students, there is a hostel which is currently under renovation. However, it may not be very easy to get accommodation on campus. There are several PGs easily available in Kamla Nagar and Vijay Nagar varying from the range of 12000 INR to 25000 INR depending upon the luxury and services provided.
Being the closest to the campus, the prices of these PGs are quite high as compared to PGs at other places. Houseitt helps outstation students by providing a wide range of well-maintained PGs starting at just INR 7000.
