“Shaheed Bhagat Singh”, the college named after Sardar Bhagat Singh, was established as a co-educational college in the year 1967 as a constituent college of the University of Delhi distinguishing itself in diverse academic and various professional fields, to promote the independence of thought and vision as a whole. With alumni such as Siddharth Malhotra, Bhuvan Bam, Shoojit Sircar, Harshvardhan Rane, Anupriya Goenka the college proves its diversification among the various different sectors of work and life and is proud of their contribution in diverse fields of business, culture and society as a large.
The college offers a wide variety of courses, from English (Hons) to Hindi (Hons) with the fees ranging from 7,000 INR to 8,000 INR, whereby Bachelors in commerce (B.Com) and Bachelors(Hons) in Geography being the most famous courses of all time and recording the highest number of admissions every year in their respective courses. The college is also listed under Top10 best commerce colleges of DU for B.com.
The campus has facilities like ATM, Canteen, Computer Lab, Library, Medical Facilities, Grounds, Wi-Fi, Seminar Hall, basketball court, tennis court and many more. One of the main attractions of the campus is the lushly green trees which are filled across the entire campus which keeps it shady and cool during summers and helps cool-down the burning heats of Delhi in summers. The very famous Bhagat Singh statue is centrally located to the campus right in front of the main administrative block, giving an authentic charm to the entrance of the college.
Coming to the library for our quite readers, the college Library is one of the most important constituents of SBSC which started functioning right from the inception of the college. Over a period it has transformed itself into a fully Automated Knowledge and Learning Resource Centre by leveraging extensively with all modern information and communication technologies. The college library constitutes more than 65000 books and the number of journals in different areas of research and training. All the books and journals are barcoded and supported by computerized search, issue and return facility which makes it easier for the students, also the working hours of the library are flexible and thus helps the students to stay and study for quite a while. This is supplemented by the computer lab with high-speed internet facility and E-Learning resource centre.
Apart from this, the college has a plethora of societies and associations which help the students showcase as well as develop their skill sets and have a lot of fun during their annual cultural and curricular fests.
Next up, the transport connectivity to the college is well facilitated with either of two lines of Delhi metro i.e. Chirag Delhi and Malviya Nagar stations. Autos are readily available near the stations where the Auto Rickshaw’s take students in groups charging nearly Rs.10/- per person. DTC buses are also well connected with a two to three-minute walk to the college.
The colleges is having a lot of recreational and hangout spots near it, the most famous being the “Authority Market” and the Select City Mall and the DLF Mall. The college is also a centre point to travel to different famous places of South Campus such as the Hauz Khas village, Qutub Minar, Lotus temple, Deer park, Lodhi Garden as well as many PVR’s situated nearby.
Since the college has no facilities for accommodation or hostels, most of the students who are outsider of Delhi preferably take up flats and PG’s near the college with short walking distances and easy connectivity.
