Never, not even in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that an unknown place will become so dear to my heart that I’ll be compelled to call it my home. I moved to Delhi two years ago for my under-graduation. Like any other freshmen, I spent considerable amount of time looking for a comfortable dwelling place. After searching in every nook and cranny I came across a PG in Shakti Nagar and immediately went ahead to book a room. I still can’t forget the day I shifted. It felt as if I could never accommodate myself to the new lifestyle.
To be honest, the first few months were harsh on me but then, I discovered my fascinating neighborhood. I fell in love with my vicinity, “the way you fall asleep, slowly and then all at once”.
Shakti Nagar has literally everything you need to survive at a new place. From a chemist to a departmental store to a book store you name it and everything is within your reach. A small tip for y’all, the first few days is going to be rough. But to cheer up the mood who would mind having some mouthwatering desert?
Shakti Nagar has not one but two amazing Bakeries- Coco Pots and Oasis. And if you’re looking for some classic Gulab jamuns or Kheer or Rabri, then hang on, you have Gopal Sweets and Kaleva just a blink away. I’m a big-time foodie and I love road-side food, and I have explored the entire area. I don’t even think twice before having Sharma Ji Ki kachoris.Kamla Nagar is walking distance from Shakti Nagar, have your coffees, garlic breads at Bistro. And another 100 meters you’ll find the world-famous, Sudama’s chai. A little secret that I would pass on to you is that you’ll find the best Maggi at Patel-chest.
Needless to say, after all the food marathon, your stomach will be upset, but chill out cos’ there are two hospitals readily available at your service which are Parmarth and Aggarwal hospital. And you can find great deals on medicines at Satyawati Departmental Store, and along with that you can buy your mid-night munchies from the same store because ‘raat ko neend kabhi aati nahi’.
Shakti Nagar is one of the best places in North campus to be settled in. Means of commute are so favorable here at Shakti Nagar, you can easily get e - rickshaw for mere 10 bucks from Shakti Nagar Chowk from where you can go to every college.
The prices of PGs are also budget friendly and you can easily find your ideal PG between ₹15000 - 25000, whereas flats between ₹10,000 -50000(For 1Bhk - 4Bhk).
All in all, I would say, I would never deny to the fact that I hated every second of living away from my family, but on a brighter side I found my own family and a home I would never want to leave. The very thought of leaving this place in a year gives me chills, and I would give up anything to just be there.
